Where To Give Birth

At Home

Some women choose to have their babies at

home and this option will be discussed with

you when you see your midwife to book your

pregnancy, we positively encourage women

to choose this option if the pregnancy is

uncomplicated.

We have a team of midwives based in the community across Brighton and Sussex who provide a 24 hour homebirth service and we have lots of experience at providing care for women wishing to give birth in their own home.

The advantages of a homebirth is that many women feel happier and more relaxed in their own familiar surroundings with their partner, children and family present and you are more likely to have a birth free from intervention.

Thinking about having a hospital birth?

If you’re considering a hospital birth, or you would just like to see what facilities we have, then you can read up on our hospitals here.

Thinking about a Birth Centre?

If your pregnancy is straightforward and you have no health problems another option is to give birth in a midwifery led birth centre. We have exciting plans to develop a midwife led birth centre in the future at BSUH. At present this option is available at The Crowborough Birth Centre and is managed by a different NHS Trust.
